General

Learn what naftype is and how it works.

What is naftype?
naftype is an offline speech-to-text application for Windows, powered by an optimized local speech engine. It runs entirely on your computer — no internet connection, no cloud services, no subscriptions. See all features.
How is naftype different from Windows built-in dictation?
Unlike Windows dictation, naftype runs fully offline using a local speech engine. There's no Microsoft account required, no data sent to the cloud, and significantly better accuracy for longer passages. Compare features.
Does naftype work without an internet connection?
Yes, naftype is 100% offline. It makes zero network connections — ever. Your audio is processed locally in RAM and never leaves your device.
What languages are supported?
naftype's built-in speech engine supports over 90 languages with automatic language detection. You can dictate in any supported language without changing settings. View supported features.

Privacy

Understand how naftype protects your data.

Does naftype send my audio to the cloud?
No. All audio processing happens locally on your machine using the bundled speech engine. Your recordings stay in RAM during processing and are never written to disk or transmitted over a network.
What data does naftype collect?
None. naftype includes no telemetry, no analytics, and makes no network requests. It is a completely self-contained desktop application with zero data collection.
Can my employer see what I dictate?
No. Everything happens on your local machine. There are no server logs, no cloud storage, and no network traffic for anyone to intercept or monitor. Your dictation is entirely private.

Technical

System requirements, compatibility, and setup details.

What are the system requirements?
naftype requires Windows 10 or later, at least 8 GB of RAM, and an Intel or AMD processor. A dedicated GPU is optional but can speed up transcription. See full specifications.
Does naftype work with my favorite app?
Yes. naftype works with any application that accepts text input. It transcribes your speech and pastes the result via the clipboard, so it's compatible with Word, Notepad, browsers, Slack, email clients, and more.
Can I use naftype with a Bluetooth microphone?
Yes. naftype works with any microphone that Windows recognizes as an audio input device, including Bluetooth headsets, USB microphones, and built-in laptop mics.
Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?
Windows SmartScreen sometimes flags applications that are new and haven't yet been installed by a large number of users. This is normal for new software. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway" to proceed — naftype is safe to install.
Does naftype support GPU acceleration?
Yes. naftype can optionally use an NVIDIA GPU to accelerate transcription. CPU processing works by default and is perfectly usable — GPU support simply makes it faster. Learn more about performance.

Troubleshooting

Solutions for common issues.

naftype isn't hearing my microphone
Check your Windows sound settings and make sure the correct input device is selected. Try speaking into a different application to confirm your microphone is working. If the issue persists, try a different microphone. Still having trouble? Email us at support@naftype.com.
The hotkey doesn't work in a specific app
Some applications intercept global hotkeys. Try changing the naftype hotkey in Settings to a different key combination. If the issue persists, try running naftype as administrator. Still having trouble? Email us at support@naftype.com.
Transcription is slow on my computer
Ensure you have at least 8 GB of free RAM and close any resource-heavy applications. If you have an NVIDIA GPU, enable GPU acceleration in naftype's settings for faster processing. Still having trouble? Email us at support@naftype.com.
